We are committed about building a more extensive and joyful reading culture in India.
Our innovative solutions are designed to help children in underserved communities get increased access to reading resources.
Our storybooks are for emergent as well as confident readers and comprise a range of genres including fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry.
Reading is the first step to literacy. Children need early and sustained exposure to engaging, joyful books to build a reading habit and become autonomous learners. Most early grade children do not have a choice of books in their mother tongues at the crucial pre-primary and primary level. We have created a rich repository of books for early readers in several languages. Our books have engaging narratives, colourful illustrations, and reflect the diversity of our culture to form a meaningful bridge for children as they grow and expand their boundaries.
We identified a need for children to be able to explore concepts related to science, math and technology in a way that sparks their curiosity and interest. This led to the creation of a series of books that explore STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for children across all 4 levels of reading.
More than 50% of the children in Grade 5 in India cannot read at Grade 2 level 1. Economic priorities mean children from low-income environments have little access to books at home. The library then becomes their sole resource for reading material.
Guided by the scarcity of infrastructure and resources that most government and affordable private schools face, we designed the Library-in-a-Classroom (LIC). Quite literally, a library that hangs on the wall, the LIC contains dozens of richly illustrated children’s books. With the LIC, the child enjoys invaluable physical proximity to printed books, which in turn encourages her to read and develop emotionally and intellectually.
Instead of by age, our books are categorized according to Reading Levels 1 – 4, ranging from Emergent to Fluent.
These are designed to help parents, educators, and librarians select the right books and help children gauge their own level of fluency in a non-judgmental manner.
The LIC comes with up to 90+ carefully selected books that are laminated to ensure durability. The books, languages, and reading levels are customized to the classroom and help teachers in multigrade classrooms. The unique format of the LIC invites children to freely interact with storybooks that are attractively displayed on the wall instead of locked up in a cupboard. This further induces shared reading and learning.
